Background
In October 2012, 24-year-old Mount Pleasant, Michigan resident Rebekah Gay was preparing for Halloween festivities. Rebekah, a hard-working hair stylist who also worked for her local Goodwill, had decorated her home to celebrate the season.
She and her fiancé Aaron Quinn had made plans to take Rebekah’s 3-year-old son Conway trick-or-treating on Halloween night. Unfortunately, Rebekah would never have the opportunity to celebrate Halloween, as her life was tragically taken by a twisted psychopath posing as an upstanding member of the local community.
Horrific Halloween Murder
Rebekah was scheduled to work at Goodwill during the day on October 31st, 2012. When she didn’t arrive for her shift, a concerned coworker drove over to her house to check on her. The coworker could not find Rebekah but noticed that her car was parked in the parking lot of a bar just down the street from her mobile home.
The landlord arrived on site and unlocked Rebekah’s trailer. Rebekah was not inside, but her purse had been left on the counter. Immediately, Rebekah’s friends and family were worried that something horrible had happened to her.
Rebekah was not the type to spontaneously vanish, especially not when she’d made plans with her son and fiancé for that evening.
Local authorities began searching for Rebekah. While investigating her home, police noticed that one area of her carpet appeared lighter in color than the rest, suggesting it had been cleaned very recently.
The Isabella County Sheriff’s Office reported that it appeared “some sort of struggle” occurred within the home. They began searching the area around her home and interviewing neighbors.
Authorities investigated Rebekah’s friends and family, including her fiancé and the father of her son, but most had alibis or were cleared of any involvement.
