Depiction of Joseph P. Kennedy

Kennedy to Senators Robert and Ted, the family at one time had enormous power and influence. This has led to rumors that family patriarch Joseph P. Kennedy may have had close ties to members of organized crime.

More specifically, the rumor that has gained the most traction is that he made his fortune as a bootlegger during prohibition. By most accounts, this is erroneous, and there are several factors that led to the narrative of Joe Kennedy the bootlegger.
