It was a scene straight out of a mob movie. 24-year-old Nicodemo S. Scarfo, more commonly known as Nicky Scarfo Jr. the son of then-imprisoned Philadelphia mob boss Nicky Scarfo had just settled into Dante & Luigi’s Italian Restaurant in South Philadelphia with two friends and was getting ready to enjoy some spaghetti and clams.

It was Halloween night in 1989, which explains why people did not pay too much attention when a man wearing a Batman Halloween mask and carrying a trick-or-treat bag walked into the restaurant and made his way toward Scarfo Jr.’s table.
