On the evening of June 20th, 1947 while relaxing on a couch with a copy of the Los Angeles Times, notorious mobster Benjamin “Bugsy” Seigel was struck by a volley of bullets fired through the living room window.
The 42-year-old gangster was killed in the Beverly Hills home of his on-again off-again girlfriend Virginia Hill. The fiery redhead Hill and the volatile Siegel had carried on an affair that at times had been combative.
The murder of Bugsy Seigel remains unsolved and is one of the most high-profile mob murders of the first half of the twentieth century. The fact that Virginia Hill’s name is connected to it is not that surprising considering her association with some of the most powerful mobsters of the day.
